Faster and Harder: Le Mans Classic in a Porsche 911 Carrera RSR (1973) Thanks to 3CMC
When my good friend Steve asked me to join him in the Le Mans Classic, I couldn’t say anything but a wholehearted “yes.” Steve owns a beautiful 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR, a dream car for any classic car enthusiast. Although neither of us had much experience in motorsport, we decided to dive into the adventure. On an amateur level, sure, but the thrill and excitement were no less intense.
The Le Mans Classic is no ordinary race. It’s a 24-hour endurance test where not only the car but also the drivers are pushed to their absolute limits. Two full days, constantly balancing between focus and recovery. Steve and I decided to prepare with everything allowed by the rules. That’s how we discovered 3CMC, a research chemical that not only gave us razor-sharp focus but also boosted our confidence. Something that’s anything but a luxury in a race like this.
The race began in the early afternoon. The sun was high in the sky, and the smell of gasoline and rubber hung in the air. I had the honor of taking the wheel first. From the moment the race started, I was in a kind of trance. The Porsche growled like a beast, and every winding stretch of asphalt felt like a challenge I had to conquer. The 3CMC helped me take every corner more sharply, judge braking points more accurately, and maintain the calm needed to avoid unnecessary mistakes.
When my first stint was over, Steve took the wheel. As I stood in the pit lane, full of adrenaline but surprisingly clear-headed, I watched him skillfully maneuver our RSR through the field. Steve drove with the same passion, and it was fantastic to see us climb higher in the rankings as a team. Our amateur status didn’t stop us from dreaming, and we kept pushing.
As night fell, the circuit took on a mystical atmosphere. The car lights drew streaks through the darkness, and the sounds of screeching tires and roaring engines became almost hypnotic. This was also when fatigue set in. But once again, we felt how the 3CMC helped us. While other teams in the pit lane seemed to struggle against sleep, Steve and I managed to stay fully focused. Every time I got back behind the wheel, I felt the same energy as at the start of the race.
The hours crept by. It was a constant balance between speed and preserving the car. We wanted to take risks, but not too many. At one point, we nearly went too wide in a fast chicane, and my heart skipped a beat. But even then, we kept our cool, managed to keep the car on the track, and continued our race.
Morning came, and the finish line was in sight. After a final switch, Steve took the wheel for the last stretch. The tension was palpable—not because we were aiming for a podium finish but because we were about to complete this adventure together. And we did. When Steve crossed the finish line, I jumped over the pit wall and ran to him. We hugged, and the fatigue seemed to wash away instantly.
Looking back on this experience, I realize how special it was. The Porsche 911 Carrera RSR didn’t let us down, and we proved to ourselves that we had more in us than we might have thought. The 3CMC had helped us give that little bit extra, to stay sharp in the toughest moments, and to push forward with full confidence.
This adventure definitely left us wanting more. It also got me thinking about buying a classic car myself, to participate even more often in these kinds of events. Maybe an old Alfa Romeo or a Triumph TR6? Who knows. One thing is certain: this wasn’t my last race. The fire has been lit, and I, Jules Lefèvre, can’t wait to hit the track again, either with Steve or perhaps with my own classic beauty. The Le Mans Classic left a lasting impression, and the adventure, friendship, and experience will stay with me for a long time.
